Haru MORITA
President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Morita has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of REGiMMUNE since March 2006. Prior to REGiMMUNE, Mr. Morita was the managing director of Think-n-Go Corporation, a privately held consulting firm providing corporate strategy, portfolio management and business development services. Previously Mr. Morita served on the management teams of Y's Therapeutics, Ltd. and Y's Therapeutics, Inc., most recently as Director of Business Development, where he was responsible for directing the company's business development and corporate planning activities. Mr. Morita's professional experience also includes strategic consulting positions at Booz Allen and Hamilton (Tokyo office). Prior to that, Mr. Morita worked as a research scientist in the medical research group at Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd. At Kirin he was part of the research and development team that was first to clone Megakaryocyte Growth and Differentiation Factor (MDGF or Thrombopoietin). He received both a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Tokyo.
Yasuyuki ISHII, Ph.D.
Non-Executive Director, Founder, CSO
Dr. Ishii is the team leader of the Laboratory for Vaccine Design at the RIKEN Research Center for Allergy and Immunology. His research is focused on the development of vaccines for Japanese cedar pollinosis. Previously, as a researcher at Kirin Pharmaceutical Division and the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, he had studied the regulatory system for IgE antibody responses in the laboratory of Dr. Kimishige Ishizaka, a pioneer in the discovery of the IgE antibody. To explore immunoregulatory systems against allergic reactions, Dr. Ishii moved to the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, which was reorganized to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Dr. Ishii is also a visiting associate professor in the Division of Immune Regulation at the graduate school of Chiba University. He received his BS, MS and PhD in Chemistry from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and is a member of the American Association of Immunologists, Japanese Society of Immunology, and Japanese Society of Allergology.
Shirley CLAYTON, MBA
Non-Executive Director
Ms. Clayton joined the Board of REGiMMUNE in early 2007. She recently retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of Abmaxis, Inc., which was acquired by Merck & Co. in 2006. As Vice President and Treasurer at Genentech, Inc., the first biopharmaceutical company, Ms. Clayton was actively involved in the early financing of the biotechnology industry. Prior to her role at Abmaxis, she co-founded Raven Biotechnologies, a cell biology company developing monoclonal antibody products, and served as its President and Chief Financial Officer. During her 25 years as an executive in the life science industry, Ms. Clayton was Chief Financial Officer, President or Chief Executive Officer in several companies including Protein Design Labs, now PDL BioPharma, Inc.; Cygnus, Inc., a drug delivery company; and CBYON, a medical technology company sold to GE Medical Systems. She is a member of the Board and Audit committee of Metro Bancorp and a member of the Board of Metro United Bank and Chairman of the Credit committee. Ms. Clayton received a BS in Chemistry from Smith College and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Hiroki NARITA
Non-Executive Director, NIF SMBC Ventures
Mr. Narita, the NIF SMBC Deputy General Manager, Investment Group, joined the Board of REGiMMUNE in December 2006. He has worked for NIF SMBC Ventures (formerly NIF Ventures) since 2000. Mr. Narita has participated in the investment of approximately $40 million in 11 biotechnology companies, including MediciNova, Inc. and LTT Bio-Pharma Co., Ltd. Mr. Narita currently serves on the Board of Directors of Cardio Incorporated and Ribomic Inc. He received a BS from Aoyama Gakuin University and an MBA from the University of Wales.
Takamoto SUZUKI, Ph.D.
Non-Executive Auditor, Professor of Ishikawa Prefectural University
Dr. Suzuki has been a Professor of Ishikawa Prefectural University since 2005, following two years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Protein Express. Previously, he held several positions at Kirin Brewery Co., Ltd., including Director of the Development Department, Vice President of the Fundamental Technology Research Center and Head of the Pharmaceutical Development Laboratories. Dr. Suzuki has served as a researcher at Sasaki Foundation and as a research associate at Tufts University School of Medicine, Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology. He received his BS, MS and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo.
